Windows 8 Release Date
Update: Windows 8 was released on October 26th, 2012
Below: Outdated Release News
Although it’s highly speculative when Windows 8 will be released, there are some roadmaps that give us some good details about the
Windows 8 release date.

The roadmap says that the next major release will be in 2012. That means the release date of Windows 8 is supposed to be 2012, because Windows 8 is the next upcoming major release.
Although there are many fake builds popping up, there are not even pre-alpha’s around and there won’t be any for a while.
What we know for sure is that Microsoft is already working on Windows 8 and they are also hiring new people to work on Windows 8.
Windows 7 has been completed, but a service pack will probably follow sooner or later, but what else would they be working on if it wasn’t Windows 8? Of course Microsoft has tons of projects, but they already have some teams working on Windows 8. With that tough competition (MAC) that is slowly but steadily growing they have to push out Windows 8 as soon as possible, that’s why I would say that it’s pretty safe to assume that Microsoft will indeed released Windows 8 in 2012.
Conclusion?
Windows 8 Release Date:
2012
Any news about the release date will be released here.

I know from a Microsoft source that the Release date will be late 2013
Panda, I doubt that you have the information from a credible source. Microsoft said many times over that they want to release Windows 8 as soon as possible. They have to .. Google is catching up with their Chrome OS, so you can expect Windows 8 in late 2011 or at least 2012. 2013 is VERY unlikely, unless their development is still very slow and they need to address a lot of problems.
Ok, so they showed Windows 8 at the CES2011. No GUI, but it was a Windows 8 build. Hopefully, we’ll get some more news soonish.
I’ve added a countdown to 2012 here, will be updated to Windows 8 countdown when we know the release date:
