Most Useful Windows 8 Shortcuts (Part 1 of 4)

If your new to Windows 8 , knowing these shortcuts will help get you flying around the operating system in no time at all!

Shortcuts make life easy and computer use faster. The tricky part is learning them but once you begin using them you will wonder how you got on without instant commands at the stroke of a key !

Here are a few useful shortcuts to get you started and there will be more to come!

Shortcut 1- Quick Search

This one’s easy! Just type! You will be using this alot in Windows 8.

When you are in the Start Menu with the live tiles – just begin typing what you are looking for and you will get search results almost instantly.

Shortcut 2 – Switch Windows

Want to switch Windows a little more effortlessly? Simple hold down the (Windows) key and (Tab) at the same time.

This will bring up the Modern Taskbar and you scroll through the apps in use. Release the (Windows) key on the app you want to use!

This is a staple from past Windows operating systems but is as useful as ever in the sometimes daunting Windows 8! It’s worth noting the Start screen is always one of the options too.

Shortcut 3- Charms Bar

To bring up the Charms Bar which in turn gives you access to most of the major features of Windows 8 simply press (Windows) and (C) at the same time.

Use this whenever you get “lost” among the operating system itself. It can happen!

Shortcut 4 – Zoom

Windows 8 is built for a variety of different devices. Sometimes you may find certain text too small or hard to read.

Zooming in (or out) is a great way around this. To do so simply press (Windows) and (+) at the same time to bring up the magnifier tool. You can also press (-) to zoom out!

Shortcut 5 – Lock Windows 8

If you need to leave your computer and want to maintain privacy from your family or work colleagues it is important to remember to lock it.

Its easy to do so there is no excuse! Simply press (Windows) + (L) at the same time to instantly take you to the Lock Screen. To access your computer once more simply enter your password and you’re good to go!
