How to enable or disable the New Windows 8 Startup Options Boot Menu

The new Windows 8 has a new GUI Startup option, which is not plain boring as compared to previous versions of Windows. However, this new option is only shown if you have more than one OS installed on your system, or added Safe Mode to the Windows Boot Manager. Here is how you can do it.

Boot startup options using Command Prompt

1. Open elevated command prompt by right clicking the Start, and then clicking Command Prompt (Admin)

2. In the command window, type bcdedit and press Enter

3. When the Windows Boot Loader loads up, select for the {Current} identifier for Windows 8.

Check for the identifier current

4. To enable the GUI Windows 8 "Startup Options" Boot Menu, type the following command in the Command Prompt and press Enter

Bootmenupolicy Standard

bcdedit / set {current} bootmenupolicy Standard

5. To disable the GUI Windows 8 "Startup Options" Boot Menu, type the following command in the Command Prompt and press Enter

Bootmenupolicy Legacy

bcdedit / set {current} bootmenupolicy Legacy

Conclusion

When the operation completes successfully, you would get a notice The operation completed successfully.
