GeoID (location) settings in Windows 8 is an indication of the region or country in which you are residing. This helps you in providing information pertaining to your local area, such as local weather and local news. In case you are not interested in getting location-specific news, you can easily disable GeoID location in Windows 8. Make sure that you sign in as an administrator to work on this tutorial. Here is how you can do it:
1. Press the Windows Hot Key to launch Metro Menu. Now type in gpedit.msc and press Enter.
2. If prompted by UAC, click Yes
3. When Group Policy Editor opens up, click and expand Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, System, and Locale Services.
4. In the right pane, double click on Disallow changing of geographic location.
To enable changing locations in Windows 8, select Disabled or Not configured.
To disable changing location in Windows 8, select Enabled. When done, click OK
