What is WEI?

TheWindows Experience Index (WEI) is a report produced by Windows System Assessment Tool which gives us a measure of the performance and capabilities of the system running on our machine along with measures of performances of individual hardware components. The hardware as well as software configuration of the machines is quantified in terms of a number called the base score which is a rating out of 10 and whose value varies from 1 to 9.9. The WEI includes five sub scores: processor, memory, 2D graphics, and 3D graphics.

A higher base score indicates better and faster performance than a computer with a lower base score while it is performing advanced and resource-intensive tasks. The sub score which measure the performance of individual hardware components is related to the base score in such a way that the lowest sub-score is considered as the base core of the machine. The base scores currently range from 1 to 5.9.

The Windows Experience Index is designed in such a way that it can accommodate all advances in technology. An improvement in hardware speed, functionality and performance will introduce higher base scores.

Generally this feature is available in the Performance Information and Tool under All Control Panel Items . So creating the shortcut will lead you to the area quickly and easily. The following tutorial will help you to learn how to update refresh the WEI score in Windows 7 and 8.
