Why Would You Want to Rename a Computer?
When Windows is installed by default it asks for the computer name during the installation process. When this happens the user is required to provide a computer name which should be unique to the entire network.
There might also be times when you might want to rename your computer because of any reason.
Renaming your computer requires elevated privileges and once the computer is renamed it requires a restart as well.
It is strongly recommended that you should rename your computer before saving any major configurations and if as a Windows 8 user you want to rename your computer you are required to follow the steps given below:
1 Logon to Windows 8 computer with any account that has administrative privileges.
2 From the available options that appear on the screen click on Desktop icon.
3 On the desktop screen right click on Computer icon and from the context menu click on Properties option.
4 On the opened window click on Change settings link under Computer same, domain, and workgroup settings section.
5 On the opened System Properties box make sure that you are on Computer Name tab and click on Change button.
6 On Computer Name/Domain Changes box type in the new computer name in Computer name field and click on Ok button.
7 On the information box click on OK button and back on System Properties box click on Close button.
8 On the appeared box click on Restart Now button to restart the computer and allow the changes to take effect.
